Prof. (Univ. Fed. Ceará) Dr. Jorg Heukelbach is founder of the One Health Institute Heukelbach.
Jorg is an internationally renowned consultant, public health researcher and infectious disease epidemiologist. He is a medical doctor with more than 20 years intensive field experience in infectious disease epidemiology and consultancies in >15 countries throughout the world.
He holds a Diploma of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, a Master’s Degree in International Health, and a PhD degree in Pharmacology.
His research focuses on infectious disease epidemiology and implementation of sustainable control measures, focussing on Neglected Tropical Diseases and other poverty-related diseases, within the One Health Approach. Jorg holds a Professor in Public Health/Epidemiology at a leading University in Brazil and has ample project experience as director of public health research projects, mainly in South America (Brazil) and sub-Saharan Africa.
His consulting experience includes also management on health infrastructure and equipment projects and their financial and logistic management (i.a. funded by KfW German Development Bank, Asian Development Bank, World Bank and Lux Development).
Jorg’s teaching skills include seminars and lectures at undergraduate and postgraduate courses, supervision of postgraduate students, invited lectures, congress presentations, and health systems research workshops, with focus on Neglected Tropical Diseases, Public Health, Sustainable Disease Control, Research Methods, Scientific Writing, and Epidemiology in general.
Jorg is peer reviewer for more than 80 scientific journals, including top leading journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine and The Lancet. He is also member of editorial boards and editor of scientific journals and books. His academic track record includes the publication of around 300 papers and book chapters.
Recently, Jorg has been appointed as the Editor-in-Chief of the peer-reviewed journal One Health and Implementation Research.
He is fluent in English, Portuguese and German, and has basic knowledge in French and Spanish.
